Visitor centers at National Parks are an amazing way to start any venture into one of our treasured lands. They almost always have informative staff available, and can help even the most skeptical visitor in the most seemingly lackluster park understand why the preservation happened in the first place. The back-country information rangers are usually willing to point out the more scenic areas that otherwise get left out of the general brochures.
Renovations like this are a good thing, as many visitor centers are outdated, stereotypical tourist information kiosks that can sometimes even manage to turn people away from their associated parks. Frederick Douglass National Historic Site could badly use one, to name but the most dire example.
